ABOUT OUR PLACEMENTS

Reach Out for Mental Health offers placements for student counsellors who are looking to gain experience working with adults experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties, including those with suicidal thoughts.

As a student counsellor with us, you'll provide up to 12 sessions of counselling to clients, working within our structured short-term model. Due to the nature of our service, we require students to have already completed at least 20 placement hours elsewhere before applying to us.

Important: Supervision

We do not provide supervision. Students are responsible for arranging their own external supervision before starting their placement with us.

REQUIREMENTS

ESSENTIAL

  • Studying towards a counselling qualification at Level 4 or above
  • Minimum 20 placement hours already completed elsewhere
  • DBS check dated within the last 6 months, or registered on the DBS Update Service
  • Professional indemnity insurance
  • Your own external supervision already arranged
  • Commitment to ethical practice
  • Ability to commit to regular placement hours

DESIRABLE

  • Interest in working with adults experiencing suicidal thoughts
  • Understanding of short-term counselling models
  • Experience of working in mental health settings
